Good Morning and welcome to another week of home learning activities. 

Phonic mat games

Can you play a ‘can you hear?’ Game

Using your purple and orange sound mats can you get an adult to say a sound for you and then find that sound on your mat. Put a coin or counter on the correct sound on your mat. If you want to make it a bit more tricky, ask an adult to say a word and you have to find the sound that is in that word.

Story Grids - Using your story grids that you have used previously, have a go at making up another story with a character, setting, problem and solution. Don't forget to use your story telling language!

Can you explore numbers 19 and 20 - Numberblocks have episodes for both these numbers but they are due to expire imminently! 19 - episode 4. 20 -episode 4.11

Make  can you fill different containers, different sizes etc with water to make ice (we will revisit the ice later in the week) – can you add colouring, flowers, herbs etc out the garden?

In Kestrel class we often do ‘Arm gym’ to make our arms strong for writing.

Can you make up your own arm exercises to music? - The actions we use are...

Swimming – rotate shoulders

Windscreen wipers – moving elbows

Hula dancing – moving wrists

Milk the cow – squeeze fists

Pinchy crab – thumb to each finger in turn   

Letter b - can you practice the letter b? remember to go down the laces to the heel and round the toe.

Tuesday 12th May

Good Morning. I hope you are well - It was so lovely to see so may smiley faces last week - there is another zoom session schuduled for this Wednesday - any queries with log in details, please contact Mrs Stubbs via email.

As an ongoing activity, BBC Alphablocks series 3 – have a series of programes - phase 3 phonics and word magic which are good for general phonics practice

ure in pure can you think of words with ure in and then blend / segment (build and explode) them with a fist bump for each sound (phoneme) and then pushing them all together? C-ure

Can you read (and/ or write) the following

sentence together?

Can a vet cure a sad cow?

Can you take a pad and pencil outside and go on a detective walk and write a list of some of the things you find? You could choose a category for your search – bugs, animals, plants etc

Numberblocks Episode 4.15 The Heist – revising numbers 16-20

Can you use your number cards to play matching pairs?

In Kestrel Class we love to dance. Can you make up a dance sequence or routine to your favourite song? Perhaps you could have a sequence of moves that you repeat each chorus? Perhaps you could teach it to other members of your family?

Can you practice your ‘pinchy crab’ Pincer grip?

With a selection of tiny objects, dried peas, lentils, sequins etc can you see how many you can pick up in a set time?

Can you play a board or card game with your family – make sure you take it in turns

Wednesday 13th May 

Hello- we are looking forward to seeing many of you on zoom at 3pm. 

Tricky words –Using the games and ideas from previous weeks, can you practice the tricky words - was, they, her

Oxford Owls – Fright Night – can you read this together and focus on the words in red (tricky words)

There are lots of speech bubbles in this book – can you use different voices for the different characters?

Can you practice counting back? For example counting songs, counting objects etc

Can you start at different numbers and count back? Can you ‘bounce’ the numbers off someone else? Take it in turns to count back each saying a number in order.

Using the ice you made on Monday, can you investigate Ice melting – where does it melt fastest / slowest? What can you do to speed it up – add water of different temperature, add salt, sugar, sand, etc – what happens? Can you take photographs or maybe record what you find out?

Can you practice your cutting? Perhaps you could cut out and stick down some shapes to create a picture?

Thursday 14th May

Good morning - it was lovely to see some of you yesterday on our zoom call - if you didn't get to join in, please drop us an email so we can see some of the lovely things you have been doing...

Can you read (and/ or write) the following sentence together?

I got a letter from a farmer

Yesterday you read ‘Fright Night’ with lots of different characters in. Can you share one of your stories from home – what would characters say? Can you make speech bubbles for your characters?

Stealing game – (for 3+ players – if you have them!)

Start with 10 counters or objects each – roll a dice and ‘steal’ that number of counters from another player. Keep counting your objects – who has the most / least? Play until somebody has no objects and the winner has the most!

As you steal objects, keep making up number sentences – eg first I had 3, then I got 2, now I have 5

(equally do the same if someone is stealing from you!)

The sun is shining today so Can you explore Shadows? – can you find out what shadows your toys make or perhaps different people in your house? Do your shadows look different at different times of day?

Can you draw round your shadows on paper or with chalk? Can you find out what makes shadows – lamp, torch sun etc

If you have it, read the Gruffalo’s child and have a think about the trick the mouse plays using the moon.

Explore printing – what shapes do different objects in your home and garden make? (use water if you don’t have paint)

Can you create a Gymnastics routine – for example -balance, tip toes, forward rolls stretching curling up

Letter i – down the body and dot for the head

Can you create a fantastic mini world or construction kit model? - can you think about the best parts of it, did you have any problems making it, or is there any part you can make even better?

Friday 15th May

The end of another week. Time seems to be flying at the moment!

Can you play Full circle – see pdf’s in W/C – 20.4 for words you can use and instructions for play on Tuesday 21st April.

Share a story, talk about setting – where has story taken place?

Subtraction

Select 10 objects – for example, Pebbles and take it in turns to take either 1,2 or 3 of the pebbles. The aim is not to take the last pebble – make sure you regularly count how many there were and how many are left?

Can you find out a little more about life in the past?

Can you pick a subject area and make a time line about different information about different members of your family – eg grandparent, parent and child

For example, a time line of all of your favourite childhood toys, favourite childhood food,  favourite childhood holiday etc

Can you explore ways for a Healthy lifestyle – eg daily walk, water, fruits and veg? can you set yourself a healthy challenge to carry out the same healthy activity every day for a week?

Letter j – down his body, curl, dot for the head

Can you hold a Family Paper plane competition? Who’s goes the farthest? How can you measure it? Which do you think is the best design? Can they be improved at all?
