Kestrel Home Learning- week commencing 19th October

Date: 18th Oct 2020 @ 1:22pm

Week beginning Monday 19th October -  Home Learning

Good Morning – I do hope everyone is well – I am going to miss everyone’s smiley faces this morning, but I am looking forward to seeing you all on zoom tomorrow.

I have chosen a selection of activities each day. I am aware that everyone’s circumstances are different with regard to time, access to computers, printers etc so have tried to choose a range of learning styles, aswell as allowing flexibility to adapt them to suit your own circumstances.

In addition please try and share lots of books and stories, taking the opportunity to develop language, retell stories, predict events, talk about feelings of characters is invaluable. Kestrel children have become expert puppet makers so I am sure they could also have a go at making some puppets to retell the stories with.

Please also have lots of practice with the sounds so far, recognition of them and practice the formation of them. Please play lots of games of I spy, hunt for objects that start with a particular letter, find that letter in books and the environment, which objects from a collection start with the same letter sound. Have fun blending and segmenting words – what sounds can you hear in a word and what words do sounds make when blended together? Explore rhyme – enjoying stories with rhyme (Julia Donaldson books are great) and play with words that rhyme.

Each day the maths activities will be found on the home learning section of White Rose Maths - It’s Me 123 week 2. https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/early-years/its-me-1-2-3-week-2/

At the bottom of this blog are a number of files with ideas that you can use for addtional activities and links to documents shared previously.

Thursday 22nd October

Firstly can I say a big thankyou for sharing so many of your amazing homelearning activities both on Zoom and via email - it is wonderful to see everyone so engaged, creative and working so hard.

We will send the phonic sheets for this week home after half term, as unfortunately I only have paper copies of them. I have looked and there is a Jolly Phonics app, but it is a chargeable app which I have not used personally, so would not be able to reccommend it either way. I have also found a link to the jolly phonic songs on youtube...

See you on Zoom at 9.15am

Can you talk about the Gingerbread man story. What part do you like best and why? Do you think any parts are funny? Sad? Happy? Can you draw (and have a go at mark making) your favourite part? Can you use or make puppets to recreate your favourite part? Could you use a construction kit to make a home for the Gingerbread man – or perhaps Mr and Mrs Baker’s new animal friends?

The following link takes you to Cosmic Halloween yoga on youtube where you can join in with the Halloween themed kid’s yoga session. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ArOzn2dtDdA&t=283s You will also find lots of other cosmic yoga sessions if your prefer a different theme.

You all did so brilliantly with your Forest School activity Why not have a go at the garden scavenge hunt. Maybe you could have a go at making pictures by laying out and arranging the things found in garden? Perhaps you would like to try the inventor hunt aswell as or instead? Perhaps you could take a look at the activities on the outdoor learning bingo card below?

Can you have a go at threading using things in your home?  pasta, straws, rolled card, beads. Can you make a necklace or super hero arm band?

Have another lovely day!
