Monday 18th January

Hello Everyone and welcome to  a new week! I hope your child enjoyed the youtube story link on Friday. Today I have added a link to a reading of Gruffalo's Child. I have also attached a file with activities that relate to this story which your child may wish to do over the course of this week.

https://youtu.be/rxfWUzUYDZo

I have found an article on supporting your child with their number on the BBC website which I have attached for your information;

https://www.bbc.co.uk/cbeebies/topics/numeracy

BBC bitesize has some great short clips to practice blending the different sounds. Can you watch the clip for today’s sound?

https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zvq9bdm

Alphablocks – x– series 1 ep 7 (link below)

https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00qhw2w/alphablocks-series-1-7-party

X in fox – action – pretend to take a photo with ‘x’

being the sound of the shutter

Can you think of words with x in and then blend / segment (build and explode) them with a fist bump for each sound (phoneme) and then pushing them all together? Eg W-a-x. Can you either write or build ( with magnetic letters) the following words, using your sound mats to help you with recognising any letters you are unsure about; fix, box, fox

PhonicsPlay Buried treasure – phase 3 +x

Practice tricky words – can you practice your tricky words (I no go into the to) using either the tricky trucks on phonics play or some of the activities shared previously. Underneath is a link to some tricky word games you may not have played before (I know a lot of you enjoyed the tricky word noughts and crosses)

https://phonicshero.com/tricky-words-activities/

White Rose ‘Alive in 5’ week 3, Lesson 1. ‘Heavy /light’

Can you play the Mucky monsters online game to practice ‘more and less’

http://ictgames.com/mucky.html

Where are icy lands? – map work

Can you have a look at a map  - eg a globe, Google earth, atlas etc at where the Antarctic and arctic are situated.

What do you notice about the map? What colours are the icy lands? Where are the icy lands on the map?

Can you watch the video to find out more about life in the icy lands

https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b08wrzh9/where-in-the-world-series-1-20-truc-hamza-and-rhys-rhys-has-a-snowball-fight

How do the icy lands compare to where you live? Can you talk about the things that are the same and which things are different.

Can you join in with Joe Wicks’s morning workout on YouTube

Can you have a go at the coin roll challenge on the attached file

Using pencils, water and brushes, chalk etc Can you practice how to write the letter x

Remember to go Down the arm and leg, repeat on the other side. Children sometimes find the x tricky, both having two ‘legs’ of the letter on the line and getting the lines to cross in the middle. You can also try getting them to stand as an x with 2 legs on the ground and 2 arms high and compare to a making a cross with 1 leg on the ground and one to the side.

Using the games you have at home (or a made up game) can you play a game that takes turns?

I know alot of you really enjoyed exploring the ice. Can you have a go at the awe and wonder challenge ‘clean coins’ on the attached file and use your excellent investigation and observation skills to explore.

Have a lovely day

White Rose ‘Alive in 5’ week 3 Lesson 2 ‘Full / empty’

Can you watch numberblocks series 1. episode 13 to practice number 4 ‘Terrible Twos’

When you look at pictures of hot and cold places you notice that there are often quite different colours in both places. The cold places often have a lot of blue, white and silver, but the hot ‘colours’ are often red, orange, yellow. Can you have a look at the ideas on the attached file and create a hot or cold (or both) colour picture. Alternatively you could use objects around the home in those colours to create a collage- clothing, fabrics, lego, etc

Wednesday 20th January

I hope the children have been enjoying the videos on youtube? Today's video is all about ways to practice numberbonds. One of the new Early Learning Goals for number is to know by heart the pairs of bonds to 5 so it is a useful skill to keep practicing.

Can you play the I spy game on the attached file?

Think back to our story of Lost and Found and how the boy helped the penguin get back to the North Pole. What do you imagine they would say to each other? Can you think of some of the things they might say and use your best speaking voice to say them? Sometimes in books and stories we see ‘bubbles’ coming from people’s mouths in the pictures. These are called ‘Speech bubbles’

Using the speech bubbles on the attached file, can you have a go at writing what the characters might be saying? Remember to think about what you want to say and write first and then have a go at writing those words using the sounds you can hear.  Just try your best with the sounds you know. You might want to use your sound mat to help you. - We will look at these a little more on Zoom. (if ypu don't have a printer, just cut some speech bubble shapes from paper)

In the story of Lost and Found, Penguin is lost and lonely. The Boy thinks he is maybe missing his family? At the moment, most of us are unable to see our friends and family, but we can still spend some time thinking about them. Can you have a look at some photos of your family (who you are unable to visit) and talk about them. Who they all are, what their names are, who is oldest / youngest, what their relationship to you is etc. Can you either write a card or letter to post to your family or maybe make a phonecall to tell them what you have been doing.

Can you join in with Joe Wicks’s morning workout on YouTube

Using pencils, water and brushes, chalk etc Can you practice how to write the letter z. Remember to go Zig zag zig.

Can you try the Rainbow Scavenge hunt on the attached file?

Friday 22nd January

Hello everyone. I hope everyone is well and was able to have some fun in the snow on Thursday?

Today's zoom is led by Mrs Bacchus - it will be slightly longer than normal to allow children to share 'something they have done this week in their home learning they are proud of'.

Using the games and ideas shared previously can you read the New Tricky words ‘he, she’

Can you practice your word blending (just like pup!)

Pick a word -then start off using just the speech sounds and then immediately say the word. For example, you could say, ‘At the shop I will buy a /m/ /a/ /p/ – map, a /b/ /e/ /d/ – bed, a /d/ /u/ /ck/ – duck.’ Then, trying just saying the sounds and asking your child to work out and say the whole word. You could always switch things and your child segments words into sounds for you to guess.

Using the suggestion on the attached file ‘add a word’ can you play a ‘word play’ game? 'add a word'

White Rose ‘Alive in 5’ week 3 Lesson 5 ‘Measure ingredients’

Using what you have learnt about measuring, could you make some tablespoon biscuits? The recipe is on the attached file. You could always try decorating them when you have finished?

Can you watch Numberblocks Series 1 episode 8

Have some fun with the BBC bring some noise game – play it. You can explore the music and have fun with making changes to the sounds.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/games/embed/bring-the-noise?exitGameUrl=http%3A%2F%2Fbbc.co.uk%2Fteach%2Fbring-the-noise%2Feyfs-ks1-music-play-it-bring-the-noise%2Fz4sq92p

Can you join in with Joe Wicks’s morning workout on YouTube

Using the rhymes on your number formation sheet, please practice numbers 4 and 5

Ride a bike! If you have a bike, trike or scooter, can you go for a ride. Perhaps you can go for a ride on it locally, or perhaps you could create a cycle route in your garden? could you make arrow cards (or use chalk) to show which ways to go? Or stop/go signs?

Can you organise a family games or quiz night? This might be with your own household or maybe on zoom? I have attached a Disney Quiz to get you started!

Have a fun weekend - I will see you on Zoom on Monday
