Kestrel Home Learning
Date: 16th Mar 2020 @ 12:27pm
Hello and welcome to our home learning blog page!
Wednesday 18th March
The current position is that school is open. However I am aware that for different reasons people are self isolating already. In the event of a closure, during term time, we will use this blog to add daily focussed activities to do with your child at home. We will also be sending home a scrapbook and a pack, with resources in, to support the activities we will add to the blog. If you are already in self isolation please can you arrange with school for delivery / collection of your resources pack.
In the meantime, if you are at home, please refer to the files below for activity ideas, but in the meantime...
- please share a book daily - your child could then have a go at writing about their favourite part or favourite character.
- please use the purple and orange phonic sheets and tricky words (issued previously but also in the pack) to practice words and sounds - maybe hide them and find the different words around the house or play matching games
- practice letter and number formation - in the bath with water, chalk outside or pencils and paper?
- please try and get fresh air daily - maybe a treasure hunt in the garden or count how many times you can throw and catch a ball.
- Cbeebies and other websites have great educational games. Useful apps if you have and ipad are bugs and buttons, bugs and numbers and Mr T does Phonics
I will update again as and when our position changes
Best Wishes and Stay Safe

Thursday 19th March
In anticipation of our home learning I wanted to post a link in readiness for Monday - Joe Wicks is running a free 30 minute exercise routine (aimed at all ages) on his youtube channel - The Bodycoach TV, from Monday to Friday. What a great way to start the day and get moving. We will definately be joining in at The Cuthbert house!
https://youtu.be/K6r99N3kXME
Also, in preparation, you are able to get a free sign up subscription to the 'Oxford Owls' website - part of The Oxford Reading Tree. Within this website are 'ebooks' (the children will be familiar with them from the classroom), Some of our daily focussed activities will refer to them, so if you are able to take a look and sign up that would be reallly helpful. You will also find other helpful number games and activities on this page.
https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/for-home/
Another website that we use in school - with great phonic games is offering free log ins - phonicsplay.co.uk username; march20 password; home
please refer to the phase 2 and 3 games for sounds the children are familiar with.
Friday 20th March
Good Morning, and so lovely to see the sun shining outside.
Thinking on to the start of next weeks home learning, I thought this could be a useful link... https://www.insectlore.co.uk/
You can purchase butterfly and other growing packs. There is a cost, and it is obviously totally optional, however if you were looking for a gift for perhaps Easter, this home 'science' kit could be a lovely idea...

Monday 23rd March
Good Morning Kestrels and welcome to today's blog. The sun is shining and we are looking forward to taking part in lots of different activities today. Hopefully we will be able to get out into the garden and do some jobs later on.
I've added a range of activities for each day. Some will need the sheets in your packs, some a computer or tablet and others are more practical. Please enjoy taking part in as many as you can, There are also lots of ideas in the attached files and Home Learning page of the school website. Mr Hover has also shared a class email for this period of home working. Please use this to contact me with any queries, but also to share any achievements, successes or news the children would like to share... kestrelhomelearning@ashtonhayes.cheshire.sch.uk
