Homework/ Support

In Year 3 and 4, the children are expected to learn a number of spelling patterns. I have compiled all of the spelling patterns into word banks. The children will be given ten words a week (some weeks may be slightly less) to learn at home on a ‘look, say, cover, write, check’ sheet. These will be sent home on a Friday to be learnt by the following Friday. The sheets do not HAVE to be used as there are lots of different ways to learn spellings and children are not expected to hand it in, as long as they are practising. A document containing all of the word banks is available right here on our class page so they can be accessed at any time.

Times tables

Year 3 children are expected to learn their 2, 5, 10, 3, 4 and 8 times tables by the end of year 3 and year 4 children are expected to know all of their tables up to 12x12 by the end of year 4. For this reason, we do a ‘Mad Minutes’ challenge every Thursday morning to encourage the children to learn their tables at home. The children attempt to answer as many questions as possible in 2 minutes. Over the year, the children progress through the different tables as they improve. The children will be sent home with a times table practise sheet every Friday. Again, this doesn’t need to be used or handed in, as long as they are practising.

Please try to read with your child as often as possible and encourage enjoyment of reading. Children who are choosing reading books from the coloured book bands will have a reading folder containing reading books and a reading record. Children who are free readers are no longer required to fill in a reading record. They can choose any book (either from home or from our class library) to read and this should be taken home and brought back in to school every day.

MyMaths and SPAG.com homework will be set on a Friday to be completed by the following Friday. All children have been given a card with their personal login details. If you need reminding of any login details, please speak to the class teacher.

A Maths and English activity menu is also available below if you would like any suggestions of activities that can be done with your child at home over the year.

Thank you for your support!
