Homework / Support

In Owl Class, we want to learn at home, rather than do homework.

Please check the Owl blog each Friday for directed homework activities such as spellings, MyMaths and Spag.com. Please note that homework will only be communicated through the blog and a paper copy will not be sent home (let's save some trees!)

Otherwise, please see below for a number of ways in which you can support your child at home while they are in Owl class.

1

Talk to them about their day! This may seem like an obvious one but explaining what they have done in class to you can really help your child to embed their learning.

2

Read

Read with your child as often as possible! It may be that your child is becoming more independent in their reading and that they prefer to read to themselves but please do continue to share lovely books together and talk to them about what they're reading! :)

Spellings

In both year 2 and 3, the children are expected to learn a number of spelling rules and patterns.  The children will receive one set of spellings per week to learn at home. Spellings will be uploaded onto the class blog on a Friday ready to explore the following week.

For additional spelling practise, you can also use www.spellzone.com which you will be given a log in for. This is a great online spelling resource with fun games for your child to play!

Times Tables

In Owl Class, we will be practising times tables regularly through a range of fun games and challenges including ‘Big Maths Beat That’ and ‘Times Table Rock Stars’.

Year 2 will be focusing on their 2, 5 and 10 times tables and year 3 will also be looking at their 3, 4 and 8 times tables.

It is essential that the children are practising times tables at home regularly as well as in school in order to embed them. You may want to use the websites below for a fun and interactive way to learn times tables.

English and Maths

At the bottom of this page, you will find a Maths Homework Menu and an English Homework Menu. These contain suggested activities that you can do at home to support your child with key English and Maths skills throughout the year. They are not compulsory and can be done in any order. They do not need to be handed in, but if your child would like to share the work they have done at home with us, we would be delighted to see it.

To support with Maths and English learning, you can also use the websites below, all of which the children have been given logins for. We will let you know via the Owl blog when specific tasks have been set on these websites.

Anything else that takes your fancy! Each term, there will be a topic overview provided. These can be found on the relevant term tab on our class page and will give a brief overview of learning across the different subject areas. Please feel free to extend this learning at home through independent research, Art and craft projects, cooking (as long as we get a taster), map skills etc.

Thank you for all of your wonderful support!
