What is Guided Reading?
- Guided Reading is a strategy that allows teachers to work closely with groups of children on an aspect of reading which is pertinent to their needs. As children gain fluency, the emphasis changes from ‘learning to read’ to ‘reading to learn’.
Why do guided reading?
- To maximise learning opportunities through small-group collaboration with a teacher or teaching assistant.
- Because just ‘hearing children read’ can be an inefficient use of precious time.
