Geography at Ashton Hayes

At Ashton Hayes geography is taught through a topic based approach. During key stage 1 children learn about and investigate their immediate locality, the United Kingdom and develop knowledge about the wider world. They begin to use geographical vocabulary and skills including first hand observations. The curriculum designed to reflect local explorers in year one of the long term planning and world explorers in year two of the rolling programme.

In key stage 2 children will extend their knowledge and understanding beyond the local area to include the United Kingdom and Europe, North and South America. This will include the location and characteristics of a range of the world’s most significant human and physical features. They will develop their use of geographical knowledge, understanding and skills to enhance their locational and place knowledge.
