Geography at Ashton Hayes
At Ashton Hayes, Geography is taught through a topic based approach - children understand when they are learning geography and using geographical skills. During key stage 1, children learn about and investigate their immediate locality, the United Kingdom and develop knowledge about the wider world. They start to use geographical vocabulary and skills including first hand observations. They will begin to understand how maps are used and investigate similarities and differences between places.
In key stage 2, children will extend their knowledge and understanding beyond the local area to include the United Kingdom and Europe, North and South America. This will include the location and characteristics of a range of the world’s most significant human and physical features. They will develop their use of geographical knowledge, understanding and skills to enhance their locational and place knowledge.
