One week in...

Date: 14th Sep 2016 @ 11:20am

We have already completed one week in school and the children are settled and producing high quality work for their new topics. We have seen some fantastic artwork, some brilliant writing and amazing maths in all classes across the school.

My focus over the past week has been varied. I have managed to visit every class on a number of occasions and I'm trying hard to remember all of the new reception children's names!  Along with the other administrative tasks associated with the start of the academic year, I have also been responding to a number of queries. Several parents have voiced concerns regarding the meal choices this year, such as a lack of choice in comparison to previous years and concerns over the choice of jacket potato everyday. Yesterday I met with a representative from Edsential, who provide the catering and menus for our school meals. This was a very positive meeting and we have agreed to change some elements of the menus in order to increase the variety and choice for our pupils. This will include the return of some items that were popular on previous menus and slight changes in some main menu items, for example, changing one Tuesday beef option to lasagne. The menus will take several weeks to be created and I will send out further details later in the term.

This evening (Wednesday 14th September) we hope to welcome as many parents as possible to our 'Meet the Teacher' presentations (6.15pm and 7pm). These presentations should last approximately 30 minutes and are for parents or guardians only. They will give you the opportunity to find out the systems in place within the class and give you the chance to ask any questions that you may have of the class teacher. There are two sessions, both of which are the same in content, giving you the chance to go to meet different teachers if you have children in more than one class.

I have also been updating the school website in order to give it a more professional feel and make it more at accessible and easy to use for parents. We will use the website as a means of communication with parents alongside our Facebook page and our Twitter feed. We are also in the process of updating our calendar pages in order to show the majority of events for this academic year.

I look forward to seeing you on the playground or at the school gate in the mornings or after school.
