Date: 27th Apr 2020 @ 8:52am

Good Morning and Welcome to another week.

I hope you have all had a good weekend and enjoyed the sunshine? I hope you are all keeping busy and well. Please keep letting me know what you have been up to on the home learning email kestrelhomelearning@ashtonhayes.cheshire.sch.uk

There are a few things that are ongoing this week, in addition to the daily home learning ideas below. The DFE are commencing their phonic lessons  - for the 10am reception 'summer' lesson, 11am revision of R/Y1, 10.30 Y.1 'Summer' lesson.  In addition, don’t forget that alphablocks have some great short programs to support phonic recognition and blending.

There are also some great lesson ideas based around texts on the White Rose Maths home learning website (early years) building activities around books and stories.

Monday 27th April

DFE phonic lessons are starting on Letters and Sounds for Home and School (youtube) today at 10am for the summer term curriculum and 11am to revise word building skills. Please see links on the attached PDF. Lessons available after upload for entire Summer term.

Ur in burger can you think of words with ur in and then blend / segment (build and explode) them with a fist bump for each sound (phoneme) and then pushing them all together? h-ur-t  (fur burn burp curl hurt surf turn)

Can you read (and/ or write) the following sentence together?

If I burn my leg, it will hurt.

Who, where, what happens and solution story telling. Just like we have done in the classroom.

Using the story grid (sheet with 4 squares on) in your pack, can you make up story – you will need a character for the first box – maybe a legoman or mini world figure. A picture or object to symbolise your setting –maybe blue paper for the beach a twig for the forest etc or a photo from a magazine. You’re then need another object to symbolise a problem – eg a rock, stick, different character etc and in the final box another object to symbolise a solution.

You are then ready to make up your very own story – don’t forget your story telling voice!

For example, From  the objects

Princess doll, Toy trees, Stone and toy dog I might make up a story as follows…

Once upon a time there was a beautiful princess who was taking a walk through the forest on a sunny spring day. Suddenly she found a giant stone and it was blocking the path. She could not see  a way round and was a little bit stuck! Then she heard a friendly yapping noise and realised it was Lucky her dog. He had found a way round the stone and led her to safety The End

More complex patterns

Can you join in with clapping patterns in familiar music? For example We Will Rock You by Queen or Happy by Pharrel Williams or Never Forget by Take That.

Can you make shakers or other instruments from yoghurt pots, rice etc. Can you use these instruments to play a pattern echoing game – One person ‘plays’ a pattern and the other person has to repeat it – eg shake shake 2 quick shakes etc

Can you create a family tree? who is in your family? Who is oldest, youngest? Can you put your family into order of age?

Can you start a diary this week of all the things you do to be healthy. Maybe you could record using pictures or photographs. Perhaps you could add your daily exercise, any healthy food you eat, perhaps you could have a challenge to drink lots of water each day?

Do you know why it’s important to try and stay healthy?

Using pencils, water and brushes, chalk etc Can you practice how to write the letter ‘h’ Remember to go ‘down the horses head to his hooves and over his back’

Can you look at some old photos? Maybe you have an album, some stored on the computer or maybe on a grown ups phone. Can you talk about the photos – do you know who is in them? Can you remember when they were taken?

Have a fun day

Mrs Cuthbert

Create a repeating pattern using natural objects – perhaps go round the edge of a drain of hoop to make a circular or square pattern?

We have been making instruments to shake on a Thursday night to say thankyou to Drs, nurses and all the other key workers who help us. Can you make some shaking instruments using rice, beans yoghurt pots etc? Perhaps if you made some yesterday for for pattern work you could make some more so that everyone in your house has one?

Thursday 30th April

Good morning everyone and happy Thursday!

DFE phonic lessons -Letters and Sounds for Home and School (youtube) at 10am for the summer term curriculum and 11am to revise word building skills. Please see links on the attached PDF. Lessons available after upload for entire Summer term.

Tricky words There are lots of different ways to learn ‘tricky words’ as they can’t be read using the word building skills the children are so good at so come down to lots of practice…

This involves lots of exposure to the word and can include matching games, looking at the word, reading it and having a go at writing it, flashcards of the word, detective games - hunting for it in

books or hidden around the home etc

Today please can you focus on the words;

He, she, me, we, be

In addition to the above, suggested games on phonicsplay include Train your brain and Tricky trucks

Can you practice matching the names and sounds of letters in the alphabet – use cbeebies link attached. Perhaps if you have letter cards you could see how quickly you can say not only the sound, but also the letter name.https://www.bbc.co.uk/cbeebies/watch/get-squiggling-letters-alphabet-song

Repeating patterns – using items in your home, can you make a repeating pattern? perhaps you could use fruit? cutlery? toys, clothes etc?  If a grown up makes you a pattern perhaps you could continue it? or perhaps you could make a pattern for a someone else to continue?

Junk modelling - Can you make a brilliant model from either recycled materials, lego etc. Can you make a sign to tell people what it is?

Using pencils, water and brushes, chalk etc Can you practice how to write the letter ‘r’

Remember to go ‘down the robot’s back and curl over his arm’

Using what you learnt about obstacle courses previously, could you make another obstacle course?

Can you play vets?

Perhaps you could use some of your toys and teddies? Can you help make them better? Can you remember all the things a vet does to help make the animals better?

Have a good day - the sun is shining at the moment so you may get chance to play outside too?

Mrs Cuthbert

Friday 1st May

It seems a little odd to be writing 'May' already especially as we have not been in school since mid March. We are however very prould of all the Kestrels and the fantastic things they have been doing.

Writing – can you read a story and draw a picture and write a sentence about your favourite part?

Oi in coin - can you think of words with ur in and then blend / segment (build and explode) them with a fist bump for each sound (phoneme) and then pushing them all together?

c-oi-n

oil boil coin coil join soil

Can you read (and/ or write) the following sentence together?

Will a coil go boing?

16 –watch numberblocks . Series 4 episode 5.

Can you practice writing number 16? can you get 16 objects - maybe lego bricks, coins etc and see which ways you can split them?  - if you shared them fairly how many are in each group? (groups of 8 reminds me of Julia Donaldson's Spinderella spider problems) if you had a group of 10, how many are left...

Can you do some baking? This link takes you to a simple biscuit recipe that can be personalised anyway you choose! Perhaps you could decorate them? You could add chocolate chips – be as creative as you like.  https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/basic-biscuit-dough

Using pencils, water and brushes, chalk etc Can you practice how to write the letter ‘p’

Remember to go ‘down pirate’s plait and round his face.

Can you have a family bingo night or maybe invite some friends to play too via zoom? Who can be the first person to get all the numbers in their row? You could pull numbers from a hat, or use an app to generate them? - please see attached file for bingo cards.

Have a fun weekend

Mrs Cuthbert
